Mark, you would love German because it is so regular. Everything follows a rule and can be expressed in tabular form! Even what is called "irregular" at GCSE level turns out to be regular (I'm thinking strong verbs here, people) and can also be expressed in (a set of) tables. As for spelling, it is so brilliant, because you can almost always predict how to spell a word from hearing it, and how to pronounce it from the spelling.
