The best bit in any song, ever

Reviews

I’m pretty sure that we heard this song while we were in South America. I think it came on the radio or something, and I remember Claire laughing her face off at it and saying how excellent it was (I believe the word she used was “terrible”).

And it is pretty excellent to be fair.

The bit that elicited this response from Claire is the clip which follows shortly (it’s the female background singers that do it) and it’s pretty much been in my head ever since we got back. I think it’s total genius and at the same time hilariously cheesy, and it’s growing on me more and more.

It’s the kind of song that could only be sung if the background singers were in drag, and the background singers are obviously (when I say “obviously”, I mean obvious to me) the whole point of the song.

It’s from Van Morrison’s song, Did Ye Get Healed, and you can hear it on Amazon.com.

And here’s the lyrics!

I wanna know did you get the feelin’?
Did you get it down in your soul?
I wanna know did you get the feelin’?
And did the feelin’ grow?

Sometimes, when the spirit moves me
I can do many wondrous things
I wanna know when the spirit moves you
Did ye get healed?

I begin to realise
It manifest in my life
In oh, so many ways
Every day I wanna talk about it
And walk about it
Everyday I wanna be closer

I wanna know did you get the feelin’?
Did you get it down in your soul?
I wanna know did you get the feelin’?
Did ye get healed?

I begin to realise
Magic in my life
See it manifest in oh, so many ways
Every day is gettin’ better and better
I wanna be daily walking close

It gets stronger when you get the feelin’
When you get it down in your soul
And it makes you feel good
And it makes you feel whole

When the spirit moves you
And it fills you through and through
Every morning and at the break of day
Did ye get healed?

The first track of “Clap Your Hands Say Yeah” is pretty awful too. Shame really, seeing as the rest of the album is fairly good.

That and Arcade Fire’s CD.. good on the whole but on the two songs when they go from Indie band to Abba reincarnated, in two seconds, just for the last minute… that was just a bit too much (The songs are “Crown of Love” and “Wake Up”.. maybe not quite Abba, but extremely cheesy either way, just for the end bits)

My parents had his greatest hits on tape, we used to listen to it in the car on long journeys. It drove me wild!

But I guess something must have worked, cos I like this song ;)

Oh, and he is Northern Irish, so the accent lady at the end of the song makes sense.
