The name of this error code is simply, Gone.
I’ve always thought it was rather poetic, as error codes go. You’d expect it to be something a little more descriptive and mundane, like Deleted or Removed, but apparently not. Consequently, it’s my favourite error code.
Are people allowed to have favourite error codes? I mean 410 is [...]

I’ve just finished reading Saturday by Ian McEwan. The novel takes place over the course of a day, and it recounts what happens to the neurosurgeon Henry Perowne. The story takes place in London, on the day of the anti-war march.
Some of the things I liked best in the book were the observations McEwan makes [...]

I regularly check my spam folder for mail which has come from people I know (so far, only one “real” email has been marked up by Gmail as spam in the couple of months I’ve been using it).
Anyway, this opening sentence from a spam email ranks amongst the silliest I’ve ever read:

At last the weather has turned bitterly cold! There’s frost on the ground, the air is biting and autumm/winter has finally arrived. I’ve been secretly hating the warmness of late; it means you wear a coat to go out and then ten minutes later you’re boiling hot and have to carry it around for the [...]

Today I bought a copy of Private Eye, and I found an advert in the back which amused me somewhat.
Haven’t got the web address you would like? Perhaps we can help! Email: w———@hotmail.co.uk
Did you see it?
Yup! That’s right! They’re using hotmail, instead of their own domain. Not a brilliant advert for their address-finding abilities.
Oh, and [...]

Have you ever opened your mouth so wide that you got cramp in your tongue? Well, I have, and it really hurts and is scary. And last night I had a little nap and when I woke up my arm was completely dead. It wasn’t cold or anything, I just couldn’t move it or feel [...]

Today at work I was doing the filing, as I do, when I came across a little catalogue bearing the title “Apres Noir” (After Dark). Puzzled, I took a further look only to read the strapline: “Fine lingerie for men”. Well, after reading that I had to take a peek inside!
Inside was a lovely array [...]

I wasn’t actually going to post about this for a number of reasons, mainly because it bears the possibility of being boring, but I recently came across the Working Draft for XHTML 2 and I find it very interesting. If you haven’t heard about the planned changes, you might like to take a peek (if [...]
