Nature is cruel!

While I was revising today, I found this picture from my revision notes. It’s a photo of a young bird, pushing its sibling (unhatched) out of the nest. It struck me both as funny and at the same time really sad.

It’s funny cos it just looks really silly, but it’s also sad because it’s so [...]

Old English

I would dearly love to learn Old English. It looks like such a beautiful language. I just found a couple of sites which tell you how to conjugate a few verbs. I finally know how to do it! I’ve had my suspicions… Basically I knew that the forms were something like:

I sing (?)
she singest
you singeth

but [...]

You actually can’t make it up. No, I’m serious, you really can’t make it up!

Lion mutilates 42 midgets
My friend told me about this BBC news item last night. I’m not actually going to tell you what it’s about, it’s too funny - you’ll have to read it yourself.
Additionally, I’ve discovered a great principle: BBC news search is rubbish. Took me ten minutes to find nothing using it, and one [...]

Scary things about medicine

Today I was innocuated against hepatitis A, I think, and I have to go back for about a hundred more jabs before I go to South America.
I was reading the malaria information, and here are some side-effects for two of the drugs I have to choose between:
Mefloquine - 250mg (Lariam) 1 tablet WEEKLY
The least common [...]

Whimsical Rabbit and Squirrel

I was recently walking past a shop in SHeffield the other day, when I happened to glance at the display. What should I find looking up at me, but a pair of rodents (actually, are they both rodents?). Underneath them was the price, and their description: “Whimsical rabbit and squirrel”.

I just thought that was too [...]

Mark’s Money

I just checked my bank balance. I am the proud owner of an overdraft as long as your arm (if overdrafts’ sizes can be described as long, and if your arm is the length of the M1). Anyway, tried to book a cinema ticket online the other day: card declined.
Turns out I am 35p away [...]

How I’m going to write this essay

I’m going to write out some sort of essay type plan now. Then I’m going down the pub. Then I’m going to bed. And then I’m getting up at 5 AM, or thereabouts, to greet the sun (I found out when sunrise is going to happen) and I’m going to write it. I say it’s [...]

Another work distracty post

Collapse
The linked game is one I used to play to distraction in Sixth Form. I think it might explain a little of the correlation between me and bad results. Anyway, to stop myself getting distracted again, I am posting this link here so that I can play it later. It’s the best game in the [...]

A work distracty post

So, the essay’s going better than I thought it would. I have to write about three papers on a “named aspect” reproductive biology, and explain why they are the most influential. Unfortunately, I have until noon tomorrow to do it, what with dissertation taking preference. But, it’s going OK.
I’ve also just found some images of [...]

And so the dissertation comes to an end

I’m currently in the library, having deposited all the library books I used to write my dissertation. I’m so pleased it’s all over, although I’m not sure about it’s quality. Reading over it, I came to the conclusion that it ranked among the worst things I have ever written. Seriously, the sentences were all boring [...]
