An update on the boiler… Its noises have become much more plaintive of late. They sound a lot like a cow giving birth to a whale, or maybe a whale mourning another whale or something. It’s actually quite marvellous. The hot water seems to be coming through more often now, so I’m happy, and I actually do think I’ll miss them when I leave the house (in like, two days, seriously, there’s not a lot of time left).
They woke me up at about 6am last Sunday, and my first thought was “Dissertation”. It’s dawned on me that there’s not a lot of time left before I have to hand it in, so instead of focussing on a particular area of the biology of cacti, I’m just going to go straight ahead and do one on “The General Biology of Cacti” and have done. It’ll be much easier to get the 6,000 words I have to write on a broader subject like this. Meh. And Bleh, actually.
In other news, I actually love my degree. I’m doing a module on the History and Philosophy of Science, and it’s fascinating. The guy that teaches it is called Tim Birkhead, and he is a passionate and excellent teacher. It’s made me want to stay on in Biology, actually, and I’m a little annoyed that this passion comes two and a half years too late. But then, it’s been a bit of an uphill struggle all of the way, and the up part is definately obvious. I’ve changed so much over the last three years, it’s so encouraging. I find myself looking forward to the future and trying to plan how I can make the best of it.
So… how can I stay in Biology for next year???
